I recently had an ignition interlock device installed on my Solterra, but it’s been causing some serious issues. For those who don’t know, an ignition interlock requires a clean breath sample before the car will start. I got it installed by the only authorized shop in my area, but as soon as I tried to start the car, I was flooded with system error messages—EV System Error, Starter System Error, you name it.

The shop says that the device’s technology hasn’t been updated in over 20 years, and it’s not fully compatible with newer, computer-controlled vehicles like the Solterra. The manufacturer’s tech support was less than helpful, advising me not to press the brake pedal while pushing the start button, but that didn’t solve the problem.

Are there other models that work better with EV systems, or is this a common issue with these devices? The dealership’s service department also seems pretty stumped, so any advice would be helpful.

Maybe try calling around to other shops that install those things. They might know more about newer cars. Also, you could talk to the company that made the device. They might have a special tech support line that can help you out.

That sucks! It sounds like the interlock thing isn't playing nice with your Solterra. You should look into other interlock devices made for newer cars, especially EVs. Maybe the maker of your device can help too. Just make sure whatever you do doesn't mess up your car.

I think the ignition interlock device is not compatible with your Solterra's modern system. Some newer devices are designed to work better with EVs. You may want to look into newer, EV-compatible models or contact the manufacturer for updates.
